Dental implant surgery is a customized procedure, but the general process includes:
Placing the implant surgically.
Healing and jawbone integration.
Attaching the abutment and final restoration.
Surgical Procedure:
Anesthesia is given to numb the gums, and sedation may be provided if needed.
Incision in gums exposes the bone for implant placement.
Jawbone preparation involves creating a small hole for the implant.
Implant placement is done carefully to ensure stability.
Incision closure is completed with stitches.
If the implant is in a visible area, a temporary tooth may be provided while healing.
Healing Phase (Osseointegration):
The jawbone fuses with the implant, ensuring long-term success.
This process takes 3 to 9 months, depending on individual healing.
Abutment & Final Restoration:
Once healed, the abutment (connector post) and final crown, bridge, or denture are attached.
This step takes about one hour and may require a minor second surgery.
Pain & Recovery:
No pain during surgery due to anesthesia.
Mild discomfort and swelling after the procedure are normal.
OTC pain relievers help manage symptoms.
Tooth loss affects how you eat, speak, and interact with others. Dental implants closely mimic natural teeth and offer several benefits:
Unlike dental bridges, implants do not require shaving down neighboring teeth, preserving your natural tooth structure. A dental implant replaces only the missing tooth, making it a one-tooth solution for a one-tooth problem.
